Product Description

There are various types of titanium alloy bars with distinct performance characteristics and application scenarios based on their composition differences. The core types and their characteristics include:

  • TA1, TA2, TA3: Commercial pure titanium alloys featuring excellent weldability, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility. Widely used in aerospace, medical, and chemical fields.
  • TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V): High-strength titanium alloy with excellent mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance, commonly used in aero-engine components and aerospace structural parts.
  • TB6 (Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al): Ultra-high strength β titanium alloy suitable for high-load structural parts requiring extreme strength.
  • TA7ELI (Ti-5Al-2.5Sn): Low-temperature resistant titanium alloy for extreme low-temperature environments such as liquid hydrogen fuel tank brackets.
  • TA15, TA24, TA22: Focus on weldability and high-temperature stability for engine casing welding structures and high-temperature applications.
Technical Parameters of TA1 Titanium Alloy Bars
Chemical Composition

TA1 is commercial pure titanium with titanium (Ti) as the core component and no alloying elements. Typical chemical composition range (mass fraction %):

Ti ≥ 99.0%, Fe ≤ 0.20%, C ≤ 0.08%, N ≤ 0.03%, H ≤ 0.015%, O ≤ 0.15%. The extremely low impurity content and high composition purity ensure excellent corrosion resistance and biocompatibility.

Mechanical Properties (Typical Values in Annealed State)

As pure titanium, TA1 has low strength but excellent plasticity and toughness:

  • Tensile strength: ≥240 MPa
  • Yield strength: ≥170 MPa
  • Elongation: ≥24%
  • Reduction of area: ≥40%
Note: The "tensile strength 800-950 MPa, yield strength 650-800 MPa" values mentioned elsewhere refer to high-strength titanium alloys (such as TC4), not TA1 pure titanium. Please note this distinction.
Process Performance
  • Hot Working Performance: Excellent forging, hot rolling, and drawing capabilities. Hot working temperature range: 800-950°C. Can be formed into various specifications and shapes with low processing difficulty.
  • Welding Performance: Excellent weldability suitable for argon arc welding, electron beam welding, plasma welding, etc. Stable joint performance with minimal defects.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance in seawater, oxidizing acids, alkalis, and salts. Corrodes only in strong reducing acid environments with fluoride ions, concentrated hydrochloric acid, and concentrated sulfuric acid.
Industry Standards for TA1 Titanium Alloy Bars
Domestic Standards

Core reference standard: GB/T 2965-2021 "Titanium and Titanium Alloy Bars" (replaces GB/T 3620.1-2007). This standard specifies chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat treatment processes, surface quality, dimensional deviation, and inspection methods.

International Standards
  • ASTM B348: Standard for pure titanium bars, where Grade 1 corresponds to domestic TA1 titanium alloy
  • ASTM B336: Reference standard for forged titanium alloy bars
  • AMS 4900 Series: Aerospace material specification with refined requirements for surface quality, non-destructive testing, and mechanical property tolerance
Common Material Selection Misunderstandings
  • Confusing Pure Titanium with High-Strength Alloy: TA1 has low strength and cannot replace high-strength titanium alloys like TC4 for high-load applications.
  • Overlooking Corrosion Limitations: While TA1 has excellent corrosion resistance, it corrodes in strong reducing acids and fluoride-containing environments.
  • Improper Hot Working Parameters: Strict control of heating temperature, holding time, and deformation speed is essential to avoid grain coarsening or cracking.
  • Ignoring Microstructure Control: Grain size uniformity and impurity content significantly impact mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.
  • Omitting Heat Treatment: Annealing eliminates internal stress, improves plasticity, and ensures processing stability.
Application Fields

TA1 titanium alloy bars are widely used across various industrial sectors due to their low density, high corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, and excellent plasticity:

  • Aerospace: Auxiliary structural parts, pipelines, connectors for aircraft fuselage
  • Petrochemical Industry: Pipelines, flanges, pump valve components, heat exchanger tubes
  • Marine Engineering: Seawater desalination equipment, marine hardware, underwater fasteners
  • Medical Devices: Artificial joints, dental implants, surgical instruments
  • Chemical Equipment: Corrosion-resistant structural parts, reactor linings, cathode plates
  • Other Fields: Light industry electroplating, environmental protection equipment, precision instrument brackets

As commercial pure titanium, TA1 titanium alloy bars provide essential corrosion-resistant material solutions for modern industry, though their performance boundaries must be clearly understood to avoid confusion with high-strength titanium alloys.
