The airbag system mainly consists of a collision sensor, an electronic control unit (ECU), and an airbag component (including a gas generator).
Collision detection: When a vehicle collides, sensors installed at key positions such as the front of the vehicle and the sides of the body will immediately detect the deceleration signal generated by the collision.
Intelligent judgment: After receiving the signal, the ECU (which is the "brain" of the airbag) will analyze the data such as the intensity and direction of the collision within a few milliseconds and determine whether it has reached the preset triggering threshold.
Instant inflation: If the judgment requires detonation, the ECU will immediately issue a firing command to the gas generator. The chemical substances (such as sodium azide) in the gas generator will react instantly, generating a large amount of nitrogen gas, which will fill and inflate the airbag completely within 0.03 seconds, creating a buffer air cushion between the occupant and the hard objects inside the vehicle. The entire process is more than 10 times faster than our blink of an eye.
The airbag warning light is a crucial indicator for determining whether the airbag system is functioning properly.
Normal situation: When the vehicle starts, the warning light will illuminate for approximately 6 seconds for self-checking, and then automatically go out.
Fault situation: If the warning light remains on after startup, flashes, or suddenly lights up during driving, it indicates that there is a fault in the airbag system.
