PWM Backlight Control
To control backlight brightness via PWM:
- Configure hardware for PWM mode (solder resistor to left position)
- Connect PWM access point to GPIO18 and GND to Raspberry Pi GND pin
- Use the following commands to adjust brightness (0-1024 range):
gpio -g pwm 18 1024
gpio -g mode 18 pwm
gpio pwmc 1000
gpio -g pwm 18 X (X = brightness value 0-1024)
gpio -g mode 18 pwm
gpio pwmc 1000
gpio -g pwm 18 X (X = brightness value 0-1024)
Note for Raspberry Pi 4: Update WiringPi GPIO library using:
cd /tmp
wget https://project-downloads.drogon.net/wiringpi-latest.deb
sudo dpkg -i -B wiringpi-latest.deb
wget https://project-downloads.drogon.net/wiringpi-latest.deb
sudo dpkg -i -B wiringpi-latest.deb
Display Rotation Options
Method 1: FKMS Mode (Default for Raspberry Pi 4)
Rotate display through menu options (recommended to use mouse for operation).
Figure 6: FKMS rotation settings
Method 2: Traditional Graphics Mode
Add the following to /boot/config.txt:
display_lcd_rotate=x (x=0,1,2,3,0x10000,0x20000)
Where:
- 0 = Normal (default)
- 1 = 90° clockwise
- 2 = 180° clockwise
- 3 = 270° clockwise
- 0x10000 = Flip horizontal
- 0x20000 = Flip vertical
Touch Rotation Configuration
Modify /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf with appropriate CalibrationMatrix values corresponding to display rotation.
