Construction Details
1. Conductor
- Material: Copper or Aluminum
- Specification: Stranded uncoated copper conductors per ASTM-B3, ASTM-B787, and ASTM-B8
- Conductor Type: Stranded conductor or solid conductor
- Function: The conductive part that transports electrical energy, serving as the main component of the wire and cable
2. Insulation
- Material: Color-coded Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
- Properties: Heat and moisture resistant, flame-retardant compound per UL 1063 and UL 83
- Function: Electrically isolates the conductor from the ground and different phase conductors to ensure safe energy transmission
3. Shield
Wires and cables of 15KV and above generally have conductor shields and insulation shields.
4. Outer Sheath / Jacket
Nylon, THHN tough, polyamide, Nylon outer covering per UL 1063 and UL 83. Slick Nylon outer jacket for easy pulling.
5. Color Code
Red, orange, yellow, yellow-green, blue, purple, gray, white or as per customer requirements
6. Protective Layer
Protects wires and cables from foreign impurities, moisture, and prevents external power from directly damaging the power cables.

- Rated drying temperature: 90°C
- Nominal wet temperature: 75°C, rated THWN
- Most THHN building wire features THHN/THWN double rating for wet and dry conditions
- When used as Type THHN: Suitable for oil or cooling liquid temperature not exceeding 90°C (dry) or 75°C (wet)
- When used as MTW type: 90°C in dry places, 60°C in moist places or places exposed to oil or coolant
8. Building Applications
THHN Wire represents high heat thermoplastic nylon coating. Suitable for machine control circuit wiring, new configurations, rewiring, or 600 volts applied. Approved for general use as defined by the National Electrical Code (NEC).
