Projection welding fasteners (nuts, bolts, studs) onto sheet metal demands precise electrode positioning and consistent force control. The projection features on the fastener are small; a fraction of a millimeter misalignment means incomplete collapse of the projection and a weak weld. Pneumatic-only systems cannot match the positioning repeatability of servo drive.

This Xinwei semi-automatic projection welder uses a servo drive for electrode positioning and constant voltage control for weld energy delivery. The servo ensures the electrode contacts the fastener projection at exactly the programmed position, cycle after cycle. The constant voltage control compensates for minor variations in fastener projection height, delivering consistent energy to each weld.
