Plate heat exchangers form alternating flow channels by stacking corrugated metal plates. Cold and hot fluids flow in opposite directions in adjacent channels, and heat is transferred from high-temperature fluids to low-temperature fluids through the plates. The two fluids never mix. ‌‌
