Product Overview
Nomay Transparent Polyimide Tape is a clear heat-resistant insulation and process-protection tape manufactured with colorless polyimide (CPI) or high-transparency polyimide film. It is designed for applications that require heat resistance, electrical insulation and visual alignment at the same time.
Unlike conventional amber polyimide tape, the transparent backing allows operators, cameras or inspection systems to observe alignment marks, barcodes, components and protected surfaces through the tape. Transparent appearance alone does not mean that every grade is optical-grade, residue-free or suitable for all high-temperature processes.

Backing & Adhesive System
Colorless PI and high-transparency PI films provide heat resistance, electrical insulation and dimensional stability while maintaining improved visibility compared with standard amber PI film. Film chemistry should be selected according to transmittance, haze, yellowness, refractive index, thermal stability and post-heating color requirements.
Transparent silicone adhesive is the common choice for higher-temperature processing, conformability and removable masking. Transparent acrylic adhesive is available for applications requiring a non-silicone adhesive surface or more permanent bonding. Complete silicone-free construction, optical cleanliness and residue requirements must be confirmed separately.

Performance & Operating Conditions
General grades are recommended for approximately -40°C to 150°C operating conditions. Selected high-temperature CPI film and silicone adhesive constructions may be evaluated for continuous use up to 200°C. Selected products may also be evaluated for short-term exposure up to 260°C.
The final temperature rating must be confirmed according to exposure time, substrate, pressure, optical requirement, allowable yellowing, adhesive residue and removal conditions. A tape may remain physically intact after high-temperature exposure while no longer meeting the required optical performance.
Before production use, evaluate transmittance, haze, initial color, post-heating yellowing, dimensional change, adhesion, edge lifting, residue and barcode or alignment-mark readability under the actual process conditions.

Comparison & Selection Guide
Colorless CPI or High-Transparency PI vs. Standard Amber PI:
Choose transparent PI when visibility, optical alignment or barcode reading is required. Choose standard amber PI when transparency is unnecessary and established general-purpose high-temperature masking performance is the priority.
Silicone Adhesive vs. Acrylic Adhesive:
Choose transparent silicone adhesive for higher-temperature masking, flexibility and removable applications. Choose transparent acrylic adhesive when a non-silicone adhesive option or stronger permanent bonding is required. Confirm whether the entire construction must be silicone-free.
Colorless Transparent vs. Light-Yellow or Slightly Hazy Grades:
Choose according to required visual clarity, transmittance, haze, allowable yellowness and cost. Do not select solely by the description “transparent.”
Roll Tape vs. Liner-Backed Die-Cut Parts:
Choose slit rolls for general masking and wrapping. Choose liner-backed windows, frames or precision die-cuts for repeatable positioning, optical openings and automated assembly.

Technical Notes + FAQ
Q: Is every transparent polyimide tape optical-grade?
A: No. Optical-grade suitability requires confirmed transmittance, haze, yellowness, surface cleanliness and post-heating optical performance.
Q: Can the tape withstand 260°C?
A: Selected constructions may be evaluated for short-term exposure up to 260°C. Exposure time, adhesive behavior, yellowing and residue must be tested under the actual process.
Q: Will transparent PI tape turn yellow after heating?
A: Yellowing depends on CPI chemistry, adhesive type, temperature and dwell time. Specify the allowable post-heating yellowness before grade selection.
Q: Is the tape guaranteed residue-free?
A: No universal residue-free claim applies. Residue performance depends on surface, pressure, temperature, time and removal conditions.
Q: What is the difference between transparent PI and amber PI?
A: Transparent PI improves visibility and alignment capability, while amber PI is commonly used for conventional high-temperature masking and insulation where optical visibility is unnecessary.
Q: Is a silicone-free version available?
A: Transparent acrylic adhesive can be evaluated, but the complete construction must be reviewed if the application requires strict silicone-free control.
Q: Can custom die-cut shapes be supplied?
A: Transparent windows, frames and precision die-cut parts can be evaluated according to drawings, tolerance and liner requirements.
Q: Are RoHS, REACH, halogen-free, UL, FDA or medical documents included?
A: RoHS, REACH and halogen-free documentation may be available for selected grades but must be confirmed. UL, FDA and medical biocompatibility are not supplied by default.
