Product Overview
Nomay PTFE Zone Tape is a selectively coated, high-temperature industrial tape made from PTFE-coated woven fiberglass cloth. Adhesive is applied only to specified edge or zone areas, while the center heating path remains adhesive-free.
This structure is designed for impulse heat sealers, nichrome heating ribbons, sealing wires and packaging machinery where adhesive beneath the active heating area can soften, transfer, accumulate or interfere with heat movement.
The adhesive edge zones secure the tape to the machine, while the adhesive-free PTFE center covers the heating element and provides a non-stick release surface. Total width, adhesive-zone width, center free-zone width, adhesive side and winding direction are manufactured according to an approved drawing.

In the most common double-edge construction, adhesive strips are applied along both outer edges while the center remains free of adhesive. Single-edge and multi-zone constructions can be produced for machine-specific mounting arrangements.

Backing & Adhesive System
The PTFE-coated woven fiberglass backing provides dimensional stability, tensile strength, resistance to tearing and a non-stick working surface. The fiberglass reinforcement helps the tape remain stable over sealing wires, heating ribbons and long heat-sealer jaws.
The PTFE surface prevents molten thermoplastic film and packaging residue from sticking to the heating area. Its low-friction surface also helps the sealed film release cleanly after each sealing cycle.
Adhesive is applied only where attachment is required. Keeping adhesive away from the active heating center helps reduce adhesive softening, glue transfer, residue buildup and uneven heat transfer.

Adhesive Buildup on the Heating Element
A fully adhesive-coated PTFE tape can place silicone adhesive directly over the sealing wire or nichrome ribbon. Repeated heating can soften the adhesive, produce residue or create carbonized buildup. The adhesive-free center removes glue from the active heating path.
Uneven Heat Transfer
An adhesive layer beneath the heating center can change the thermal path and create inconsistent heating. The center free zone allows the PTFE fiberglass backing to cover the heating element without an additional adhesive layer in the active area.

Performance & Operating Conditions
The typical continuous operating range is −73°C to 200°C. Specially selected high-temperature constructions can be evaluated up to 260°C, but the complete backing, adhesive, exposure time and machine conditions must be validated before production use.
PTFE must not be heated above 316°C because excessive heating can release hazardous decomposition fumes. The tape must not be exposed to open flame or uncontrolled heating.
Before installation, remove oil, grease, moisture, dust, carbonized adhesive and damaged tape from the heat-sealer jaw. The adhesive edge zones must contact clean, flat machine surfaces.
The center free-zone width should fully cover the active heating ribbon or sealing wire while keeping the adhesive away from the primary heating path. Incorrect zone dimensions can expose the heating element or place adhesive in the heated center.
The tape should be applied smoothly without wrinkles, trapped air or excessive tension. Machine temperature, sealing pressure, dwell time, cooling time and film material must be tested after installation.
