100A 300A 600A/5A Current Transformer For Energy Monitoring And Power Meter
A Current Transformer (CT) is a precision instrument designed to produce a reduced current in its secondary winding that is proportional to the AC current in its primary conductor. By scaling down high-amperage primary currents to standardized, measurable levels (typically 1A or 5A), CTs allow for the safe monitoring and protection of electrical systems without requiring high-power metering equipment. Whether used in high-voltage switchgear or compact smart meters, our current transformers provide the critical link between the power grid and sensitive control electronics.

- High-Permeability Core: Utilizing premium Silicon Steel or specialized Permalloy cores, our CTs exhibit exceptional linearity and minimal phase shift across a broad dynamic range.
- Flame-Retardant Enclosure: Housed in high-strength, UL94-V0 rated polycarbonate or ABS plastic, providing excellent mechanical durability and electrical insulation.
- Standardized Secondary Output: Optimized for a wide variety of secondary signals, including 5A/1A for traditional meters and 333mV/mA for low-power IoT energy sensors.
- Broad Range of Designs: Offered in Split-core (for retrofit installation), Solid-core (for new builds), and Busbar-mounted configurations to suit diverse physical environments.
Answer: In a current transformer, the primary current is independent of the secondary load. If the secondary circuit is opened, the secondary "counter-MMF" (Magnetomotive Force) disappears. This causes all of the primary current to become magnetizing current, driving the core into deep saturation. This leads to two critical failures: first, it induces extremely high voltage peaks (kilovolts) across the secondary terminals, which can be fatal to personnel and destroy insulation. Second, the massive iron losses from saturation generate intense heat, which can permanently damage the core and melt the windings. Always ensure a load (burden) or a short-circuit link is connected before energizing.
- Energy Management Systems (EMS): Provides the data input for industrial power meters and sub-metering modules in factories and commercial buildings.
- Relay Protection: Critical for detecting overcurrent, ground faults, and short-circuit conditions to trigger circuit breakers in protection relays.
- IoT & Smart Grids: Integral for real-time current sensing in cloud-connected energy monitors and smart distribution boxes.
- Motor Control Centers (MCC): Monitors the load current of heavy-duty induction motors to prevent overheating and mechanical failure.
Answer: The "s" in Class 0.5s stands for "Special." While both have a 0.5% error limit at 100% and 120% of the rated current, Class 0.5s is specifically calibrated to maintain high accuracy at much lower current levels. For instance, a Class 0.5 CT may have significant error at 5% of its rated current, whereas a Class 0.5s CT is guaranteed to remain within its tight error margins from 20% down to 1% of the rated current. This makes the "s" class indispensable for applications with highly variable loads, such as solar inverters or modern industrial facilities during low-load standby periods.
- Enhanced Operational Safety: Provides complete Galvanic Isolation between high-power primary lines and secondary monitoring circuits, protecting both equipment and operators.
- Ease of Installation: Our Split-core models feature a snap-on mechanism that allows for installation without disconnecting power cables, significantly reducing labor costs and system downtime.
- Exceptional Thermal Stability: Designed with high-grade insulation (Class B or F) and robust core geometry to ensure consistent performance even under significant ambient temperature fluctuations (-25 °C to +70°C).
- Long-Term Reliability: Every unit undergoes rigorous dielectric and ratio testing to ensure a maintenance-free service life of over 15 years in demanding industrial environments.
