Hot rolling produces a robust structural section with an internal fillet radius and a non-decorative mill surface. Pickling removes scale and surface oxides produced during hot processing, leaving a clean matte industrial finish.
Type 304 is designated UNS S30400 and EN 1.4301. For material ordered to ASTM A276, the purchase order should state the applicable unit system, grade, product form and supplementary requirements.

A pickled hot-rolled surface is intended for industrial rather than mirror-finish applications. Slight differences in shade, texture or rolling marks may be visible and should not automatically be treated as defects.
Hot-rolled angles may have tapered legs or rounded transitions depending on the mill process. Buyers requiring sharp corners, decorative appearance or tight thickness control should discuss cold-formed or plate-formed alternatives.
Typical applications include processing platforms, machinery frames, factory supports, walkways, tank stiffeners, brackets, warehouse equipment and general structural fabrication.
304 should be evaluated carefully in coastal, saline or chloride-bearing environments. A more corrosion-resistant grade may be necessary.
Six-metre lengths can be supplied in bundled form or loaded into containers according to the agreed loading plan. Cut-to-container lengths such as 5.8 m can reduce loading difficulty for certain shipping arrangements.
