ASTM A479 316L Stainless Steel Angle for Pressure Vessel Construction

Shaanxi Shangyou Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. supplies ASTM A479/A479M Type 316L stainless steel angle for components used in boiler and pressure-vessel construction.

ASTM A479/A479M-25 specifically covers hot- and cold-finished stainless steel bars and hot-rolled or extruded shapes, including angles, tees and channels, for use in boilers and other pressure vessels. It should not be applied to an ordinary structural angle solely as a marketing label.

The buyer must identify the applicable design code, material specification, grade, product form, dimensions, heat-treatment condition and supplementary testing requirements. Compliance with ASTM A479 alone does not establish compliance with an entire pressure-vessel design code.

The RFQ should state whether the angle is a pressure-retaining component, an attachment, internal support or non-pressure structural item. The design engineer must confirm the permitted material and allowable stress values under the governing code.

Any cutting, welding, forming or heat treatment performed after certification must be controlled so that traceability and required properties are not compromised.

Available documentation can include MTC, heat-number transfer records, dimensional report, PMI report, NDT report, inspection and release note.

XRF PMI can distinguish major alloy families but cannot independently verify the low-carbon “L” designation. Carbon verification requires suitable analytical documentation or an appropriate laboratory method.
