Product Description

Diaphragm Vane / Stationary Blade

General Function

The Diaphragm Vane, or stationary blade, is a foundational component in impulse steam turbines. It is responsible for precisely directing the high-velocity steam flow onto the moving blades while managing the pressure drop across each turbine stage. The quality, dimensional accuracy, and structural integrity of the diaphragm directly and significantly impact the overall thermal efficiency of the impulse turbine.

Key Features

  • Advanced Welded Construction: All high and intermediate pressure diaphragms are constructed as steel plate welded structures with inner and outer shrouds, completely eliminating the use of traditional cast diaphragms.
  • Deformation Control: By utilizing low-stress narrow weld technology, we effectively limit welding-induced distortion. This guarantees that the stationary blade height, throat width, and passage area remain strictly within design tolerances, ensuring optimal flow path efficiency.
  • Precision Machining: The shroud rings are formed entirely before the profile holes are laser machined. Furthermore, the inner and outer rings are cut as whole pieces, fully welded, and the horizontal joints are precisely cut using wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining).
  • Low-Leakage Mechanical Mounting: The design utilizes mechanically mounted base keys and horizontal joint hanging pins that are bolted rather than welded, further reducing diaphragm distortion.
  • Enhanced Rigidity: All diaphragms feature horizontal joint connecting bolts, which eliminates the need for external diaphragm carrier compression structures. This design enhances the overall rigidity of the full ring and drastically reduces steam leakage at the horizontal joint.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • How does your diaphragm design prevent steam leakage? Our diaphragms utilize horizontal joint connecting bolts to increase overall ring rigidity, and we employ bolted (rather than welded) base keys and hanging pins. This mechanically mounted design minimizes thermal distortion and reduces steam leakage at the horizontal joints.
  • Why do you use welded structures instead of cast diaphragms? We exclusively use steel plate welded structures with inner and outer shrouds for high and intermediate pressure diaphragms. Combined with low-stress narrow welds, this approach provides superior control over nozzle deformation, ensuring aerodynamic dimensions like throat width remain highly accurate.
  • Are these diaphragms suitable for rapid load changes? Yes. The robust mechanical assembly, combined with optimized flow path efficiency and rigid bolting structures, ensures the diaphragms maintain their integrity and performance during complex operating conditions and rapid load adjustments.
