The electrochemical principle is a detection method that determines the oxygen content in sample gas by reacting the electrolyte in the battery with oxygen molecules in the sample gas. Essentially, an oxygen sensor is an oxygen cell, with an oxygen electrode as the cathode and an appropriate metal as the anode. Since oxygen requires the metal to discharge, the cathode of this type of oxygen cell is typically silver, the anode is lead, and an electrolyte is charged inside. The electrolyte is separated from the sample gas by a membrane, allowing oxygen to pass through the membrane into the sensor while preventing the electrolyte from leaking out.
