Product Overview

The W.FL2 Series offers ultra-small surface mount coaxial connectors with a nominal mated height of 1.18mm (max. 1.3mm). These connectors are designed for applications requiring a small board footprint, occupying an area of 3.4mm. They are among the world's smallest and lightest coaxial connectors, with a receptacle weighing 5.0mg and right-angle plugs weighing 17.4mg (040) and 15.3mg (032). The series supports a frequency range up to 6 GHz, with VSWR of 1.3 max. up to 3 GHz and 1.4-1.5 max. from 3 GHz to 6 GHz depending on cable diameter. Receptacles are packaged on tape-and-reel for automatic board placement. Plugs are terminated with ultra-fine coaxial (fluorinated resin insulated) cables, enabling connections in small, confined spaces. Mating and un-mating are facilitated by dedicated tools. The connectors are halogen-free. Applications demanding high reliability, such as automotive, should consult a company representative.

Plugs

Mating / Unmating

• Use insertion and extraction jig for disconnecting connectors.
• Pulling the cable during unmating may result in damage to the connector or cable.
• Align mating axes of plug and receptacle for mating.
• Confirm plug is positioned to be guided.
• Remove tool by carefully pulling it up.
• Do not twist connectors excessively during mating/unmating.

Pull forces on the cable after connectors are mated

• W.FL2-LP-%%* (040 type): 2 N max.
• W.FL2-LP-%%* (032 type): 1 N max.
• Do not apply pull forces after cable bending.

Receptacles

Recommended reflow temperature profile

• 250C max. for 10 seconds.
• Preheat: 220C (130 to 180C) for 120 seconds max.
• Soak: 160C for 50 seconds max.
• Reflow soldering at printed circuit surface temperature of 250C max.
• Consult solder paste and equipment manufacturer for specific recommendations.

Recommended metal mask thickness

• 0.1mm to 0.12mm

Operating environment and storage conditions

Operating environment

• Not designed for excessive fine particles and dust.
• Not designed for environments with high density of corrosive gasses (SO2, H2S, NO2).
• Not designed for environments with large rapid variations in temperature.

Storage conditions (Receptacle)

• Store in Hirose Electric packaging.
• Temperature: -10 to +40C, Humidity: 85% max.
• Use within 6 months of delivery.
• Receptacles beyond storage period must be tested for solderability.
