DOM Carbon Steel Tube for Precision Machinery 30-425mm OD
Dom Round Tubing Welded Carbon Round Steel Tube for Precision Machinery
Material Overview
Dom Round Tubing—commonly referred to as DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel)—is produced from electric-resistance-welded (ERW) steel (typically AISI 1020, 1026, or equivalent). It undergoes cold drawing over a mandrel to remove weld flash, enhancing dimensional accuracy, concentricity, strength, and surface quality. It is widely used in precision machinery due to these enhanced characteristics.
Specifications
-
Standards: Conforms to ASTM A513 Type 5 (mechanical tubing), as well as international equivalents like EN DIN EN 10250‑2 (C22E), GOST 10704‑91, JIS G3445 STKM 13B, and GB/T 31315‑2014.
-
Typical Grades: AISI 1020 is most common; 1026 is used for larger ODs or thicker walls. Some sources also list ST52.3.
-
Size Range: OD from ~0.188″ to 12″ (4.8 mm–127 mm); wall thickness from 0.028″ to 0.625″ (0.7 mm–15.9 mm).
Chemical Composition Comparison
Here's a table comparing chemical composition among five common low‑carbon steel grades used in DOM/precision tubing:
| Grade | C (%) | Mn (%) | P (max %) | S (max %) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AISI 1008 | 0.08–0.10 | 0.30–0.50 | 0.040 | 0.050 |
| AISI 1010 | 0.08–0.13 | 0.30–0.60 | 0.040 | 0.050 |
| AISI 1015 | 0.13–0.18 | 0.30–0.60 | 0.040 | 0.050 |
| AISI 1018 | 0.15–0.20 | 0.60–0.90 | 0.040 | 0.050 |
| AISI 1020 | 0.18–0.23 | 0.30–0.60 | 0.040 | 0.050 |
Mechanical Properties Comparison
Mechanical properties for the same five grades are outlined below:
| Grade | Tensile Strength (MPa) | Yield Strength (MPa) | Elongation (%) | Hardness (HB) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AISI 1008 | ~340 | ~285 | ~20 | ~95 |
| AISI 1010 | ~365 | ~305 | ~20 | ~105 |
| AISI 1015 | ~385 | ~325 | ~18 | ~111 |
| AISI 1018 | ~440 | ~370 | ~15 | ~126 |
| AISI 1020 | ~420 | ~350 | ~15 | ~121 |
