PSA Technology Overview
Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) technology has been a proven method for nitrogen generation since the 1970s, with thousands of plants operating worldwide. Our systems have been supplied to customers in over 56 countries.
How PSA Nitrogen Generation Works
Air consists of 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. PSA technology separates these components by adsorbing oxygen while allowing nitrogen to pass through as product gas.
The PSA process utilizes two vessels filled with Carbon Molecular Sieves (CMS):
- Adsorption: Compressed air passes through one CMS vessel where oxygen is adsorbed, producing nitrogen.
- Desorption: When saturated, the system switches to the second vessel while the first regenerates by releasing waste gases.
- Regeneration: Produced nitrogen purges through the saturated vessel to regenerate the CMS for the next cycle.
