The system operates on the principle of pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology. Nitrogen (N2) and oxygen (O2) both have quadrupole moments, with N2 (0.31 Å) being larger than O2 (0.10 Å). This difference causes the molecular sieve to adsorb N2 more strongly than O2.
When compressed air flows through the adsorption bed containing molecular sieve at specific pressures, N2 is absorbed while O2 passes through. The system consists of two towers filled with molecular sieve that alternate between adsorption and regeneration cycles to produce continuous nitrogen flow.
