Solenoid technology is an electro-mechanical device that controls the flow of a media through a pipe by opening or closing the valve orifices. The solenoid assembly consists of a coil, plunger, and sleeve assembly. In a normally closed valve, a plunger return spring holds the plunger against the orifice, preventing flow through the valve. When the coil is energized, a magnetic field is produced, raising the plunger and allowing flow through the valve.

The armature tube is the stainless steel or brass tubular element used as a guide for the movable core which is actuated by the magnetic force generated by the coil.

The armature assemblies are constructed of metallic components designed to provide protection against incompatibilities of various fluid medias. However it is necessary to use caution when specifying a solenoid valve for an unfamiliar fluid. Use caution when selecting a material suited specifically for the media.
