How the Mode Conditioning Cable Works

This conditioning fiber optic patch cord is required due to the single-mode launch nature of LX (long-wave 1300nm) transceiver modules used for Gigabit Ethernet.

When a single-mode laser is launched into the center of a multimode fiber, it can generate multiple signals that confuse the receiver. The mode conditioning patch cord solves this by offsetting the single-mode launch away from the center of the multimode fiber, creating a launch similar to typical multimode LED launches.
