High-performance single mode optical fiber circulators designed for telecommunications, sensing, and imaging applications.
What is an Optical Fiber Circulator?
An optical fiber circulator functions similarly to a microwave circulator, serving as a three or more port multiport device. Lightwave transmits from one port to the next sequential port with minimal loss while being blocked from traveling to previous ports.
Originally developed for telecom systems, optical circulators are now widely used in sensing and imaging applications due to their availability in low-cost, high-performance configurations.
This three-port device enables unidirectional light transmission: signals entering Port 1 exit Port 2 with minimal loss, while signals entering Port 2 exit Port 3 with minimal loss. Light entering port 2 experiences significant loss at port 1, and light entering port 3 experiences substantial loss at ports 2 and 1.
Optical circulators are non-reciprocal devices, meaning changes in light properties caused by passing through the device are not reversed when traveling in the opposite direction.
