Equipment Overview
This Melt Flow Index Test Equipment is used to determine the melt flow rate (MFR) of thermoplastics in g/10min units.
It is designed for testing polyethylene, polypropylene, polyoxymethylene, ABS resin, polycarbonate, nylon, and various
fluoride plastics and other polymer materials.
Working Principle
The equipment operates by heating the test material to its molten state under specified temperature conditions.
The molten material is then extruded through a standardized orifice under controlled load conditions.
The melt flow rate represents the polymer material's fluidity and viscosity properties in the molten state,
calculated as the average mass extruded over a 10-minute period.
Calculation Formula: MFR (θ, mnom) = tref * m / t = 600 * m / t (g/10min)
Where: θ = Test temperature, mnom = Nominal load (Kg), m = Average cut mass (g), tref = Reference time (10min): 600, t = Cut time interval (seconds)

Calculation Example
Sample cut masses: 0.081g, 0.086g, 0.081g, 0.089g, 0.082g
Average mass: m = (0.081 + 0.086 + 0.081 + 0.089 + 0.082) ÷ 5 = 0.084g
MFR = 600 * 0.084 ÷ 30 = 1.680 g/10min
Average mass: m = (0.081 + 0.086 + 0.081 + 0.089 + 0.082) ÷ 5 = 0.084g
MFR = 600 * 0.084 ÷ 30 = 1.680 g/10min
