Titanium alloy is an alloy composed of titanium and other elements. Titanium has two kinds of isomorphs; titanium is an isomer with a melting point of 1720°C and a close-packed hexagonal crystal structure when it is lower than 882°C , called a titanium; above 882°C, it has a body-centered cubic grid structure, called B titanium, using the different characteristics of the above two structures of titanium, adding appropriate alloying elements to make its phase transition temperature and phase content gradually Titanium alloys (itanium alloys) obtained by changing different organizations.

The specific strength of titanium alloy products is the highest among metal structural materials. Its strength is equivalent to that of steel, but its weight is only 57% of steel. In addition, titanium alloy has the characteristics of small specific gravity, high thermal strength, good thermal stability and corrosion resistance.

Adding aluminum, boron and other α-stabilizing elements to titanium obtains α-titanium alloy.

The room temperature strength of α titanium alloy is lower than that of β titanium alloy and (a+b) titanium alloy, but its strength at high temperature (500 ℃ ~ 600 ℃) is higher than them.

The structure is stable, the oxidation resistance and creep resistance are good, and the welding performance is also very good.
α titanium alloy cannot be quenched and strengthened, mainly relying on solid solution strengthening, heat treatment is only annealed (stress relief annealing after deformation or recrystallization annealing to eliminate work hardening).
The typical grade is TA7, the composition is Ti-5Al-2.5Sn. Its operating temperature does not exceed 500 °C, and it is mainly used to manufacture fuel tanks for missiles, turbine casings for supersonic aircraft, etc.
