DCL explosion-proof electric actuators can be optionally equipped with a built-in over-torque protection system.
In hazardous-duty pipeline applications, valves may become jammed due to medium crystallization, deposits, or foreign particles. When the valve operating torque rises sharply and reaches the preset limit, the torque switch immediately interrupts the motor power supply. This helps prevent valve stem damage and protects the internal gear transmission from excessive mechanical load.
For additional motor protection, high-sensitivity PTC thermal protectors are embedded directly in the motor windings. If the motor stalls and the winding temperature rises to 105°C, the protection circuit automatically cuts off the power supply. Once the winding temperature drops to approximately 80–90°C, the circuit automatically resets, allowing operation to resume. Together, over-torque protection and motor thermal protection provide two independent layers of protection against mechanical overload and abnormal motor heating.
DCL explosion-proof electric actuators are designed for use in explosive gas and combustible dust atmospheres, excluding underground coal mine applications. Their explosion-proof design makes them suitable for more than 90% of typical industrial hazardous-area applications.
To prevent an internal ignition from propagating to the surrounding explosive atmosphere, the motor chamber, electronic component compartment, and terminal compartment are designed and manufactured in accordance with stringent Ex d flameproof requirements. Precision-machined cylindrical flameproof joints are used at critical enclosure interfaces.
The clearance and engagement length of each flameproof joint are carefully controlled to restrict flame propagation. Combined with a robust die-cast aluminum alloy enclosure, the actuator is engineered to withstand the high transient pressure generated by an internal explosion without compromising enclosure integrity, thereby containing ignition sources within the housing.
DCL explosion-proof electric actuators are rated to IP68 and carry North American CSA certification. They comply with ANSI/UL 60079-1 and CSA C22.2 No. 30 requirements and are suitable for hazardous locations classified under both Division and Zone systems, including Class I, Division 1 and Class I, Zone 1 applications.
