DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexer) technology extends optical networking capabilities by significantly increasing bandwidth on existing fiber infrastructure. Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing combines multiple optical signals onto a single fiber strand for efficient data transmission.
How DWDM Technology Works
DWDM systems utilize multiplexers (Mux) to combine outputs from multiple optical transmitters for transmission across a single optical fiber. At the receiving end, demultiplexers (Demux) separate the combined signals, routing each channel to its appropriate optical receiver. The architecture begins with transponders mapping input data onto individual DWDM wavelengths, which are then filtered and combined by optical multiplexers for core fiber transmission.
