DIN 525 defines a series of non-threaded studs for drawn arc stud welding, creating a permanent, monolithic connection with the base material. The process forms a forged, full-penetration fusion zone, resulting in a threaded anchor point whose ultimate tensile load is determined by the weld interface rather than mechanical engagement. This makes it the specified solution for primary structural connections in steel construction, offshore platforms, and heavy equipment where fatigue resistance and predictable failure modes are engineering requirements.

Material Specification & Condition
Supplied in the quenched and tempered (Q&T) condition from weldable steels including S235JR, S355JR, or stainless steel 1.4301. The heat treatment ensures a consistent tensile strength range (400-600 MPa minimum) and hardness profile that matches common structural steel plates, preventing heat-affected zone (HAZ) brittleness.

Joint Metallurgy & Mechanical Performance
The drawn arc process produces a metallurgical bond with a forged grain structure at the weld interface. The joint's static strength typically exceeds the stud's nominal tensile strength, with fatigue performance governed by the geometry of the weld fillet and the resulting stress concentration factor.

Welding Procedure & Quality Validation
Application requires a calibrated stud welding system controlling lift, arc time, and plunge. Base metal carbon equivalent (CEV) must be assessed for weldability.
