I. Introduction

lubricators are designed to act as a pressure chamber used to either deploy

or recover tools from the wellbore

whilst under pressure. There are three different lubricators

manufactured by Hunting; integral single piece versions for

working pressures of 15K, conventional multi part assemblies,

and lightweight for 10K working pressures.

Lightweight Lubricators use specially designed quick union connections,

however, this does not define the lubricator as lightweight. It is the use

of a high strength Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) as the main tube that

greatly reduces the weight of the assembly due to the reduced wall

thickness compared to thick walled carbon steel lubricators.

Hunting also supply Lightweight Lubricators with traditional Otis or

Bowen quick union connections should the client require, but with the

advantage of the CRA lightweight tube.

The Lightweight Lubricator threaded connections where the CRA tube

is attached to the quick union end subs have a metal to metal primary

seal and an elastomer o-ring as the secondary barrier. This arrangement

keeps the secondary barrier elastomer seal in prime condition as it is

never exposed to well fluids. Safety is also a prime consideration; in the

event that both the primary and secondary seals fail, the connection will

not expand and separate, maintaining structural integrity.

All lightweight lubricators have been fully temperature tested, covering a

range from -29 to + 121°C.

Lightweight Lubricators are supplied in standard lengths of 4ft, 6ft, 8ft,

10ft and 12ft although bespoke lengths have been supplied to match

customer requests, and can be supplied with ports if required, being

placed in the quick union connection end sub and not the CRA tube.

III. Structure Features

Lubricator is mainly consist of tube, nut and slips, etc.:

Tube is the main pressure-bearing part to accommodates toolstring inside, it’s lubricator

body part;Seal ring is installed on the quick union part to ensure the sealing connection

of the lubricators.Nut and slips are mainly for connection function.

IV. Pressure Test

The lubricator should be tested for compressive strength periodically, the test pressure

is 1.5 times of the working pressure.

1. Install the test sub and test pipeline.

2. Open the test pump for the pressure test and press the pressure to test,

holding 15 minutes and fill the test record card.

V. Maintenance

1. Replace the seals after each time usage.

2. Install with the thread protector when in storage.
