DIY Safety Guidelines
  • Exercise caution when working with all electrical equipment, wear safety glasses, gloves etc when appropriate
  • Ensure cells are within operating temperature range prior to use
  • Do Not Use if cells are punctured, damaged or leaking
  • Provide adequate protection to cells during assembly & use thereafter
  • Dispose of properly to recycling or similar facility
  • Do Not submerge in water
  • Do Not allow to come in contact with direct heat, extreme temperatures or fire
  • Prevent harsh impacts or extreme vibrations which can cause immediate or cumulative damage

Safety Advice
  • Do not submerge the battery in the water
  • Do not insert batteries with the (+) and (-) reversed
  • Do not disassemble, dispose in fire, heat or short circuit
  • Do not expose batteries to sunlight for long time
  • Do not keep batteries close to children
  • Do not short circuit the battery in any situation
  • Do not discharge the new battery! Please fully charge them at first
  • Do not open the battery safety valve
  • Do not violently wrest the screw on the terminal
  • Do not mix different brands of battery in one pack
  • Do not mix different capacity or different conditions batteries together
Important Notes

Please check all batteries voltage and inner resistance and make sure they are balanced before DIY. All batteries will be tested before shipment but you need to test them too. You must have basic knowledge of electronics and battery assembling. If you know nothing please learn more before doing assembling. No refund or warranty for any unprofessional operation. Some of the cells will have small scratches due to moving or long transportation, but it won't affect usage at all. Hope you don't mind it.

Why Top Balance LiFePO4 Cells?

We buy some cells whether they are grade A, B or C or they are used LiFePO4 cells, whether they are the same voltage or not, you still need to do the initial balance.

What that means is to bring them to the same state of charge. But using the voltage to determine if they are the same state of charge, it's unreliable for the chemistry. This is because there will be relatively flat charge and discharge curve. That means it could be the same voltage with your meters but they can be slightly off the state of charge watts.

It is important to have solid initial balance so that when you do your first capacity test, you have accurate results. If one of your cells is too high or too low, it triggers your BMS high or low voltage in this connect. your capacity results will be off.

Also if you have balancing problems with the used or new pack, and you stop active balancer on that pack to compensate for that.

You need to do the initial balance and see if this fix your problem.

People see one of their cells spiking, they'll say like "oh, that seems balancing wrong there" that's not how you solve the problem. You should do the initial balance, then the capacity test and watch the cells under a large loads, to see if they are initial internal cell resistance. And if you do have a bad cell, you should probably sweep it off for a new one.

Also keeping in mind if you connect the cells in parallel, let them naturally balance over time, they will balance. But it takes weeks or months depending on what size battery bank you have.

The very initial voltage between them is very small, when it's in the high state of charge, this will pass current from each other in balancing very quickly.

People check balancing of their cells and will say, "Oh, it's only off by 0.51volt" These are new cells and they come at the same voltage. I suggest you connect them to a BMS, it could be OK. It is technically true that you let the BMS monitor the balance on its own.

But if you have a very large battery bank, or if you have very ancient in-cell internal resistance, if you have large loads, or if you want to balance the capacity, you should do a manual top balance, no matter why.
