Whether using Grade A, B, C, or used LiFePO4 cells, initial balancing is essential to bring all cells to the same state of charge. Voltage alone is unreliable for determining state of charge due to the flat charge/discharge curve characteristic of this chemistry.
Proper initial balancing ensures accurate capacity test results and prevents premature BMS triggering during operation. If balancing issues persist, consider using an active balancer rather than relying solely on the BMS.
While parallel connection allows natural balancing over time (weeks to months), manual top balancing is recommended for large battery banks, cells with varying internal resistance, or when precise capacity matching is required.
