All LiFePO4 cells require initial top balancing before building a battery pack. This ensures accurate capacity testing and prevents BMS voltage triggers. Even cells with the same voltage may have different states of charge due to the flat charge/discharge curve of LiFePO4 chemistry.
Manual top balancing is recommended for large battery banks or when dealing with variations in internal cell resistance. While parallel connection allows natural balancing, this process can take weeks or months depending on battery bank size.
