Pulse Oximetry (SPO2)

ZOLL's E-Series pulse oximetry option allows users to continuously, noninvasively, and painlessly monitor the percent oxygen saturation of

arterial hemoglobin at a peripheral measurement site (e.g., feet, toes, or fingers). The oximeter sensor contains two light-emitting diodes (LEDs)

that transmit red and infrared light to the extremities of the body. The photodetector receives the transmitted light. Oxygenated blood absorbs light

differently than unsaturated blood. Therefore, the amount of red and infrared light absorbed by blood flowing through the corresponding

peripheral parts of the body (e.g., fingers in adults, feet in infants) can be used to calculate the ratio of oxygenated hemoglobin to total

hemoglobin in the arterial blood. The monitor displays this rate as a SpO2 percentage. Normal sea level values ​​are generally between 95% and

100%. The E-Series utilizes Maximo® pulse oximetry electronics with a fundamentally different method of sensing, processing, and reporting

arterial oxygen saturation and pulse rate. The E-Series SpO2 module (Maximo® board) interfaces with Maximo sensors and reports monitoring

results (oxygen saturation, pulse rate, pulse waveform, etc.) to the E-Series system board via a serial digital interface. The E-Series system

provides isolated DC power and serial communications to the SpO2 board via an isolated power supply board.
