►Attaching the electrode pads

1. Expose the patient's chest
Cut or tear the patient's clothing to ensure that the chest is dry and clean. Wipe off any sweat or water droplets immediately.

If the patient has a lot of chest hair, use the razor provided with the pads to quickly shave the area where the pads are attached.

2. Position the electrodes correctly

Right electrode (white): Place under the patient's right clavicle, to the right of the sternum.

Left electrode (red): Place on the midline of the left armpit, approximately lateral to the left nipple.

Make sure there are no air bubbles or wrinkles and that the electrodes are in firm contact with the skin.

3. Notes

Avoid open wounds, implanted devices (e.g. pacemakers), or medication patches (if present, remove them first and clean the skin).

For children, check if the AED has a pediatric mode or dedicated electrode pads (if not, adult electrode pads can be used).

Connecting the electrode pads

Insert the plug of the electrode pads into the AED host interface (usually clearly marked).

Heart rhythm analysis

The AED will automatically start analyzing the heart rhythm, making sure no one is touching the patient to avoid disturbing the analysis.

Shock indicator

If the AED recommends a shock:

Make sure no one is touching the patient and press the shock button.

If there is no shock recommendation:

Continue CPR (30 chest compressions + 2 rescue breaths) immediately until the AED reanalyzes or until emergency personnel arrive.
