Description

How to Install the Capacitor into the Tray.

- Position the Tray as shown in picture.

- Position the Capacitor over the Tray compartment on the Power Supply side, with the red wire to the center of the compartment. Leave the other compartment empty.

- Install the wire end of the Capacitor first. Then press on the Capacitor to slip the other side into the Tray.

The PHiliph XL+ defibrillator requires a very high instantaneous release of energy to stop an irregular heart rhythm. However, the defibrillator's internal battery voltage is too low to directly provide such high energy. A capacitor acts as an energy storage device. When you press the "charge" button, the device's internal boost circuitry converts the battery's low voltage into a high voltage of several thousand volts, storing a huge amount of energy in the treatment capacitor. This stored energy can be released instantaneously (usually in milliseconds), generating a momentary but extremely powerful current strong enough to penetrate the chest wall and simultaneously depolarize most of the heart muscle cells, thus "resetting" the heart's electrical activity.

Defibrillators use biphasic waveform technology, and the therapeutic capacitor is the basis for achieving this waveform. A biphasic waveform means that the current flows in one direction first, then reverses direction and flows again. This waveform has proven to be more effective than the older monophasic waveform, requiring less overall energy and causing less potential damage to the myocardium. The capacitor, through precise charge and discharge control, ensures that the released energy is a stable biphasic waveform that conforms to design standards, thus safely and effectively performing defibrillation.
