What is the difference between a 3-lead ECG and a 12-lead ECG? A wire that consists of two electrodes of opposite polarity is called a bipolar wire. A 12-lead ECG consists of three bipolar leads (I, II and III), the unipolar leads to limbs (AVR, AVL and AVF) and six unipolar leads to the chest, also called precordial or V-leads, (, ,,, ,, and).
How many additional electrodes does a 12-lead ECG have?
Proper electrode placement is essential to accurately measure the heart's electrical activity. For a 12-lead ECG, 12 leads with 10 electrodes are calculated.
Why is the right leg based on ECG?
With this and the other two wires, an electrode on the right leg acts as a reference electrode for detection. According to generally accepted ECG rules, a depolarization wave on the way to the left arm creates a positive deviation in lead I, since the positive electrode is on the left arm.
