When Installing a New Unit, Please Note the Following Important Points
- When removing the air spring valve linkage, inspect it for bent or broken parts. Replace any damage.
- Inspect the shock absorber to see if it needs to be replaced. Signs of wear can usually be identified in two places: If it compresses or rebounds easily, it needs to be replaced. After servicing, the shock absorber should feel warm to the touch. If not, it needs to be replaced. Proper shock absorber maintenance contributes significantly to the lifespan of your air springs.
- After removing the air spring, inspect the air line for cracks and damage. Also, check for loose connections and replace any worn parts.
- Sometimes the cause of an air spring failure is visible and/or obvious, but sometimes it is not. If not, inspect the air spring after removal to determine the cause of the failure and correct the problem.
- After removing the air spring, other parts of the air suspension are more easily accessible. Inspect the frame suspension, trailing arm bushings, torsion bar, trailing arms, and air spring mounts for wear or damage. Replace components as needed.
- Also check the area around the air spring mount to ensure there are no obstructions or sharp edges that could damage the new air spring.
- Before installing the new unit, clean the air spring mounting plate to ensure it is properly seated on the suspension.
- Always use new mounting bolts during installation. Do not reuse old bolts, as they may fail.
- Check the proper operation of the leveling arm. Under load, the leveling arm should move upward from the neutral to the inlet position.
- This allows air to enter the spring and return the leveling arm to its neutral position. When the load is removed, the leveling arm should move downward to the exhaust position. This opens the exhaust valve, allowing air to escape until the arm returns to its neutral position.
