Product Description
Case expansion measurement is critical in Turbine Supervisory Instrumentation for monitoring thermal growth of machine casings during startup and operation. The sensor mounts on the foundation opposite the fixed point to measure case growth relative to the foundation.
A dual transducer arrangement is recommended for comprehensive case expansion monitoring, checking the position of both sliding feet beneath the case. This configuration helps detect stuck feet conditions that could cause case twisting and machine damage. When used with 3300 or 3500 monitors, this setup provides alarms for such conditions. The high-temperature version is compatible exclusively with the 3500/45 monitor.
Case expansion monitoring also enables verification of thermal growth differentials between the case and rotor. When expansion rates differ significantly, rotating and stationary components may experience rubbing, potentially causing damage. The transducer assembly incorporates an LVDT within a weatherproof enclosure for reliable operation.
