Product Description


Magnesium is electrochemically the most active metal employed in common structural alloys of iron and aluminum. Mg is widely used as a sacrificial anode to provide cathodic protection of underground and undersea metallic structures, ship, submarine, bridge, deck, aircraft and ground transportation systems. Following the same principle of utilizing Mg characteristics in engineering advantages in a decade-long successful R&D effort, Mg powder is now employed in organic coatings (termed as Mg-rich primers) as a sacrificial anode pigment to protect aerospace grade aluminum alloys against corrosion.

Sacrificial anode can be distributed in two ways: single or concentrated in groups. There are two types of anode embedding: vertical and horizontal. The embedding directions are axial and radial. The anode burial position is generally 3~5m away from the outer wall of the pipeline, and the minimum should not be less than 0.3m. The burial depth should not be less than 1m from the top of the anode to the ground. For northern areas, it must be below the frozen soil layer. When buried in groups, the anode spacing is 2~3m. In dry areas where the groundwater level is lower than 3m, sacrificial anodes should be buried deeply. For rivers and lakes, sacrificial anodes should be buried in safe parts of the riverbed (lake bottom) as much as possible to prevent damage during flooding and dredging. When using sacrificial anodes in cities and pipe network areas, it should be noted that there should be no other structures between the anode and the protected structure, such as cables, water, steam, pipes, etc.
The distance between the sacrificial anode (magnesium anode) groups on the pipeline is 1 to 2 groups/km for long-distance pipelines, and 200 to 300 groups are appropriate for urban pipelines and internal pipeline network.
