ATSC stands for Advanced Television Systems Committee. ATSC national standard for digital television was officially approved by ATSC on September 15, 1995. ATSC source coding adopts MPEG-2 video compression and AC-3 audio compression. Channel coding adopts VSB modulation and provides two modes: terrestrial broadcast mode (8VSB) and high data rate mode (16VSB).
