Ferro silicon Description

Ferrosilicon 65% is a gray ferro alloy product. It is a ferro alloy composed by 65% silicon and about 34% Fe. In addition, it contains small amounts of aluminum, calcium, titanium and carbon. Ferro Silicon is using coke, steel chips and quartz (or silica) as raw materials, after high temperature reduction of 1500-1800 degrees, silicon melts in molten iron to form ferro silicon alloy.

Ferro Silicon Application: 

1. Ferro Silicon Alloy is used in steelmaking and foundries as a source of silicon in production of carbon steels, stainless steels, and other ferrous alloys for its deoxidizing properties, to prevent loss of carbon from the molten steel (so called blocking the heat); ferromanganese, spiegeleisen, silicon calcium, and many other materials are used for the same purpose.

2. Ferro Silicon Alloy can be used to make other ferroalloys. Ferro Silicon Alloy is also sed for manufacture of silicon, corrosion-resistant and high-temperature resistant ferrous silicon alloys, and silicon steel for electromotors and transformer cores. In manufacture of cast iron, ferrosilicon is used for inoculation of the iron to accelerate graphitization. In arc welding, ferrosilicon can be found in some electrode coatings.
