Function: The intake pipe pressure plays a crucial role in the engine's performance. The pressure within the intake pipe affects the air/fuel mixture that enters the engine cylinders. The ideal air/fuel ratio (usually around 14.7:1 for gasoline engines) is necessary for efficient combustion and optimal engine performance.

Measurement: Intake pipe pressure is typically measured using a sensor called a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor. The MAP sensor detects the pressure within the intake manifold or intake pipe and provides this information to the engine control unit (ECU). The ECU uses the data from the MAP sensor to adjust the fuel injection and ignition timing for optimal performance and fuel efficiency.

Pressure Conditions: The pressure within the intake pipe can vary depending on several factors, including the engine's operating conditions. During engine idle or low-load situations, the intake pipe pressure tends to be relatively low. Under high-load conditions, such as during acceleration or heavy engine load, the intake pipe pressure increases as more air is drawn into the engine.

Boost Pressure: In engines equipped with forced induction systems, such as turbochargers or superchargers, the intake pipe pressure can be significantly higher than atmospheric pressure. This increased pressure is known as boost pressure and is used to force more air into the engine, resulting in increased power output. Boost pressure is typically measured using a separate sensor called a boost pressure sensor.
