Braided mesh filters can be used with electronic components to form EMI, EMC and RFI shielding in devices such as microwave ovens, CLOSED-circuit televisions, waveguides, connectors and shaft seals. The same material is also an excellent heat conductor, resilient to high temperatures, radiation and shock absorption. This makes them suitable for use in harsh environmental conditions. The flexibility and elasticity of knitted mesh allow it to withstand thermal shock and vibration without breaking. This provides considerable advantages over paper and sintered filters and allows for tight interference fit within the housing without the need for precision tolerance machining.

Due to the relatively low cost of moulds for knitted mesh products, compression elements with minimal pressure drop and good post-compression recovery characteristics can be manufactured economically and efficiently.
