1,Metal structure packing can greatly shorten the start-up time of the equipment​:

The start-up process of air separation equipment is no product output operation. Shortening start-up time is one of the ways to save energy and reduce consumption of air separation equipment. The start-up time of air separation equipment refers to the time required from starting the expander to oxygen output. After packing, the amount of liquid in normal distillation process is greatly reduced, and the start-up time of air separation equipment is greatly shortened. The amount of liquid retained during normal distillation is greatly increased after the use of conventional packing in the upper column. After the descent, the start-up time of air separation equipment is greatly shortened, generally only 26 to 30 hours.

2,The liquid holding capacity of conventional packing is small:

The volume of the structured packed column is usually only 1% to 6% of the column volume, while the liquid holding capacity of the sieve column is 8% to 10% of the column volume. Small liquid holdup means that the liquid stays in the tower for a short time, and the operating pressure drop is small, which is conducive to variable operating conditions. The design range of structured packed towers is 40% to 120%. The oxygen production of the upper tower of the 12000m3/h air separation equipment of Shanghai Steel No. 5 Plant can be adjusted within the range of 9000~14000mm3/h, and the operating load range is only 75%~117%.

3,The pressure drop of the structured packing is significant:

Because the gas-liquid two-phase membrane contact in the structured packing is different from the bubbling contact in the sieve plate, the pressure drop of the packed column is only 1/4 to 1/6 that of the sieve plate. For example, the operating resistance of the upper column with regular packing is 3.5-4.2kpa, and the operating pressure at the bottom is only 35-45kpa. The sieve plate column is still used in the lower column, and the operating resistance remains unchanged, so the operating pressure of the lower column is reduced by 0.05-0.06mpa, generally 0.44-0.48mpa. Reduce the shaft power of air compressor by 5%-7%.
