An AT cut quartz endcap can be utilized as part of a quartz thickness-shear mode pressure sensor. A thickness-shear mode sensor operates based on the change in resonant frequency of the quartz crystal caused by the applied pressure.

In a thickness-shear mode pressure sensor, a quartz crystal is typically cut into the AT orientation to take advantage of its stable frequency-temperature characteristics. The crystal is then shaped into an endcap form, which allows for convenient integration and mounting within the sensor assembly.

Quartz Endcap Application

The basic principle of operation involves applying pressure to the quartz crystal, which induces a change in its mechanical stress and mass distribution. This alteration in stress and mass leads to a shift in the resonant frequency of the crystal. The magnitude of the frequency shift is directly proportional to the applied pressure, allowing for pressure sensing or measurement.
