To reduce dealer inventory, common service replacement temperature contactors have replaced the original equipment temperature contactors. The service replacement temperature contactors are preset to a standard setting. This setting must be calibrated to the correct operating temperature range for its appliion (refer to Chart A for temperature ranges). This Special Instruction includes the procedure to test and calibrate the temperature range of the contactor to specific actuation and deactuation temperature settings. It is also recommended that each contactor be checked for correct calibration and recalibrated as necessary. Refer to Chart A for a listing of all temperature contactors used on 3600 Diesel Engines and the specified service replacement contactor part number. The 7C-4927, 4W-2647, 7C-3888, and 7C-4926 Temperature Contactors have a 3 m (9.8 ft) long capillary tube; the 121-0031, 121-0032, and 121-0033 Temperature Contactors have a 5 m (16.4 ft) long capillary tube; and the 4P-6038, 121-0034, and 122-5972 Temperature Contractors have an 8 m (26.0 ft) long capillary tube. When ordering a replacement temperature contactor, be sure to order the part number of the service replacement temperature contactor listed in Chart A and not the part number of the temperature contactor being replaced. This ensures receiving the correct service replacement part.Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publiion, or order any parts until you have read and understood the information contained within this Special Instruction.Reference: Refer to Special Instruction SEHS7734, "Use of 6V-7070 Heavy-Duty Digital Multimeter and 6V-7800 Regular-Duty Digital Multimeter" for instruction on using the multimeter.Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the use and care of heat baths.
