How PSA Nitrogen Generation Works
Pressure swing adsorption processes rely on gas attraction to solid surfaces under pressure. Different gases adsorb to surfaces with varying strength - the CMS bed in PSA systems attracts oxygen more strongly than nitrogen. When air passes through the CMS bed under pressure, oxygen is adsorbed while nitrogen passes through. The bed regenerates by pressure reduction, releasing adsorbed oxygen for the next cycle.
Dual adsorbent vessels enable near-continuous production through pressure equalization, where gas from depressurizing vessels helps pressurize others, significantly improving energy efficiency.
