Francis turbine is a kind of counterattack turbine. It was invented by American Engineer Francis in 1849. It is also called Francis turbine, or radial axial flow turbine.

The water flows radially into the runner from all around, and then out of the runner approximately axial. The runner is composed of the upper crown, the lower ring and the blade.

Francis turbine is widely used in water head (about 20-700m), simple structure, stable operation and high efficiency, is the most widely used modern turbine.
