The ZT6-450 slack adjuster consists of two main components: the body assembly and the control mechanism. The body includes cylindrical housing, sleeve, guiding nut spring box, front cover, screw, protective tube, spring, and lever. The control section comprises the control rod and control rod head.

The slack adjuster functions as an integral component within the complete UIC brake system architecture, working in coordination with mud distributor valves, angle cocks, brake hose couplings, auxiliary brake cylinders, throttle stops, sensor valves, and brake cylinders to ensure optimal braking performance.
