Carbon monoxide and oxygen undergo corresponding oxidation-reduction reactions on the working electrode and the counter electrode respectively, releasing charges to form a current. The magnitude of the generated current is directly proportional to the concentration of carbon monoxide. By testing the magnitude of the current, the concentration of carbon monoxide can be determined.
