Manufacturing Process
Step 1: Raw Material Selection
Premium steel from Sylaith is selected with precise chemical composition control. Micro-alloying elements (Nb, V, Ti) are added to achieve high strength without sacrificing formability.
Step 2: Hot Rolling
The steel is heated above recrystallization temperature and rolled to achieve the required thickness (0.3-3.0mm). Controlled rolling parameters ensure uniform grain refinement and consistent mechanical properties.
Step 3: Normalizing (N Condition)
The "N" in Q355N C indicates normalized or normalized rolled delivery condition. This heat treatment process refines grain structure, improves toughness, ensures consistent properties throughout, and eliminates internal stresses.
Step 4: Skin Pass
A light cold rolling pass (skin pass) is applied to improve surface finish, enhance flatness, prevent yield point elongation, and ensure consistent forming behavior.
Step 5: Surface Treatment
The plates receive normal oiled / slightly oiled surface treatment to protect against corrosion during storage and transport, prepare surface for subsequent processing, and maintain bright, clean appearance.
Step 6: Quality Inspection
Every coil/plate undergoes rigorous testing including mechanical property verification (yield, tensile, elongation), dimensional inspection (±1% tolerance), surface quality assessment, and hardness testing (mid hard specification).
Step 7: Certification
Products are certified to multiple international standards: ISO 9001 (Quality Management), JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards), API (American Petroleum Institute), SNI (Indonesian National Standard), CE (European Conformity), GS (German Safety Standard), and KS (Korean Standard).
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What does Q355N C mean?
A:
- Q = Yield strength (Qu Fu Dian in Chinese)
- 355 = Minimum yield strength of 355 MPa
- N = Normalized or normalized rolled delivery condition
- C = Quality grade with guaranteed impact toughness at 0 °C
Q2: What is the difference between Q355N C and regular Q235?
A: Q355N C offers 50% higher yield strength (355 MPa vs 235 MPa) and includes micro-alloying elements (Nb, V, Ti) for improved toughness. It also guarantees impact performance at 0°C, while Q235 has no such guarantee. Q355N C is designed for demanding structural applications where Q235 would be insufficient.
Q3: What thickness range do you offer?
A: We offer 0.3mm to 3.0mm thickness range:
- 0.3-1.0mm: Light gauge for complex forming
- 1.0-2.0mm: Medium gauge for general fabrication
- 2.0-3.0mm: Heavy gauge for structural components
Q4: Is Q355N C suitable for welding?
A: Excellent weldability! Q355N C has low carbon content (≤0.20%) and low carbon equivalent (≤0.45%), allowing welding using standard processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW) without pre-heating for most thicknesses.
Q5: What is "mid hard" hardness?
A: Mid Hard indicates an optimal balance between strength and formability—hard enough for structural integrity yet soft enough for complex bending operations. This makes it ideal for general fabrication where both strength and formability are required.
Q6: What is your delivery time and MOQ?
A: Standard delivery time is 7-20 days after order confirmation, depending on the quantity and any special requirements. Minimum Order Quantity is 1 ton, making it easy for customers to place trial orders or purchase for specific projects.
Q7: Is this steel suitable for bending?
A: Absolutely! Q355N C is specifically designed for complex bending operations, cold forming, stamping, and roll forming. The combination of mid hard hardness and excellent elongation (≥20-22%) ensures reliable, crack-free bending.
Q8: What are the typical automotive applications?
A: Q355N C is widely used in automotive for frame rails, cross members, chassis components, structural reinforcements, suspension parts, and commercial vehicle frames where high strength and good formability are essential.
