Working Principle: How Stainless Steel Sheets Are Made
Cold rolled stainless steel sheets are produced through a precise manufacturing process:
Step 1: Hot Rolling
Steel slabs are heated and rolled to reduce thickness.
Step 2: Annealing & Pickling
The hot rolled coils are heat treated and acid cleaned to remove scale.
Step 3: Cold Rolling
The pickled coils are rolled at room temperature to achieve precise thickness (0.5mm) with excellent surface finish and tight tolerances.
Step 4: Annealing (Again)
Cold rolled coils are annealed to restore ductility and relieve internal stresses.
Step 5: Skin Pass / Leveling
A light rolling pass improves flatness and surface quality.
Step 6: Surface Finishing
Depending on the final application, various finishes (2B, BA, NO.4, 8K, HL) are applied.
Step 7: Slitting & Cutting
Sheets are cut to customer-specified sizes.
Step 8: Inspection
Every batch undergoes rigorous testing:
-
Chemical composition analysis
-
Mechanical property testing
-
Dimensional inspection (±1% tolerance)
-
Surface quality assessment
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q1: What is the difference between 304, 201, and 430 stainless steel?
A:
-
304: Austenitic, excellent corrosion resistance, non-magnetic. Best for general industrial and food applications.
-
201: Austenitic, good corrosion resistance, lower nickel content (more economical). Suitable for decorative and light industrial use.
-
430: Ferritic, good corrosion resistance, magnetic. Ideal for automotive trim, appliances, and decorative applications.
