Type I collagen is the most abundant form of collagen in the human body and is the only collagen component in bone, accounting for more than 90% of bone matrix.
During the continuous remodeling of the bone matrix throughout the skeleton, type I collagen is degraded, the lower fragments are released into the blood, and some appear in the urine. Determination of the content and changes of these small fragments in blood and urine can evaluate the state of bone resorption, which is not only helpful for the diagnosis of metabolic bone disease, but also can monitor and evaluate the efficacy of anti-bone resorption drugs.
Collagen type I C-terminal peptide (CTX), one of these small peptide fragments. The complete C-terminal peptide of type I collagen contains 26 amino acids, and the 15th to 22nd amino acids are in turn gluten-lys-propane=group-aspart-gly-glyc-arginine (EKAHDGGR). The C-terminus of the collagen α1(I) chain is specific and is called the 8 amino acid sequence (8AA).
